IDEXX Telemedicine Consultants Welcomes SHADOWSMITHS Teleradiology and VetRadiologist [Trade]  (from Idexx.com website) 

WESTBROOK, Maine, January 21, 2013—IDEXX Laboratories is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of two veterinary radiology reading groups. SHADOWSMITHS Teleradiology, based in Shelburne, Vermont, joined IDEXX on November 8 of last year, followed by VetRadiologist of St. Paul, Minnesota in December. These acquisitions strengthen IDEXX’s position as the leading provider of diagnostic information and telemedicine services to the veterinary healthcare industry.

Our partnerships with SHADOWSMITHS and VetRadiologist help us provide exceptional customer service to more veterinary practices,” said Don Schofield, Director and General Manager, IDEXX Telemedicine Consultants. IDEXX welcomes the principals and owners of both companies to the IDEXX Telemedicine team:

H. Mark Saunders, VMD, MS, DACVR, Joseph D. Stefanacci, VMD, DACVR, and Jonathon T. Shiroma, DVM, MS, DACVR, are the principal owners of SHADOWSMITHS. Matthew Wright, DVM, MS, DACVR, a fourth principal of SHADOWSMITHS, joined IDEXX Telemedicine Consultants earlier. According to Dr. Wright, “Joining IDEXX has improved the way we are able to offer teleradiology services to our clients. They are seeing faster turnaround times and more efficient handling of teleradiology cases, as well as a broader range of services including cardiology and dentistry.”

Travis C. Saveraid, DVM, DACVR, is the owner of VetRadiologist. “Our affiliation with IDEXX Telemedicine Consultants is providing VetRadiologist clients with improved, consistent 24-hour, 7-day-a-week coverage and timely case turnaround,” says Dr. Saveraid. “I am particularly excited about leveraging IDEXX’s broad expertise and resources to further enhance CT/MRI interpretation services with specialty hospitals throughout the country.”

SHADOWSMITHS has provided radiology and specialty telemedicine consulting services to referral hospitals and high-end, high-volume veterinary practices. SHADOWSMITHS is led by a group of four well-respected and experienced radiologists who have held the highest positions in the field of veterinary radiology. Dr. H. Mark Saunders was a member of the University of Pennsylvania faculty in the Department of Clinical Studies, and is a distinguished past president of the Veterinary Ultrasound Society and American College of Veterinary Radiology. Dr. Jonathan Shiroma was a faculty member at the University of Florida and is currently the staff radiologist at MedVet (Columbus, Ohio), one of the largest private referral centers in the country. Dr. Jay Stefanacci has authored and co-authored multiple papers which are published in a variety of veterinary journals. And Dr. Matt Wright, who has also published scientific articles and lectured on topics such as geriatric radiology, portosystemic shunt imaging, DICOM, and digital radiography purchasing decisions for veterinarians.

VetRadiologist, LLC, based in St. Paul, MN, has provided diagnostic imaging interpretation and imaging support services to help a broad variety of hospitals across the country raise their standard of patient care since 2006. VetRadiologist approached telemedicine with a particular focus and expertise on CT/MRI consulting. Dr. Travis C. Saveraid, founder and owner of VetRadiologist, worked as a clinical faculty radiologist at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and the University of Minnesota, following his radiology residency at Washington State University. Saveraid will continue his mobile ultrasound service in the Twin Cities region.
